About Songscription

We're a music learning AI lab on a mission to enable anyone to play any song they can imagine. Our first product, Songscription, is the AI-powered "Shazam for sheet music" which allows people to upload any audio and get back sheet music, MIDI, tabs, or piano roll back in minutes. Hundreds of thousands of musicians have used it to transcribe songs that have never been written down before. Our second product, Anything Piano, is an app that lets users upload any song and learn it through an interactive piano roll with real-time feedback.

We've raised a $5M seed led by Reach Capital and been covered in TechCrunch, Billboard, and MusicRadar. The team is small, the pace is fast, and we're just getting started.

Role Description

Songscription is hiring a Founding Design Lead to help shape the next generation of tools for music learning. As a consumer company, we know that delightful design and a strong outward image are essential, and you'll be the leading voice in crafting both. You'll collaborate closely with our CPO, engineering team, and marketing team to define the core experience of our existing music transcription product and lay the groundwork for our future music learning app.

This role is ideal for an experienced designer who wants to merge their passion for design with their love of music. You'll translate our research team's newest AI capabilities into user experiences that feel simple, intuitive, and musical. Every decision you make will shape our product and how users experience it every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end UI/UX design of our consumer product, spanning our current platform and future learning experiences
  • Define our brand identity by developing and evolving a cohesive visual language across product and marketing
  • Prototype and iterate quickly, turning ideas into interactive prototypes, validating with users, and refining based on feedback and technical constraints
  • Collaborate across disciplines by working closely with product, engineering, and marketing to bring new features and campaigns to life
  • Shape Songscription's design culture by setting the bar for craft, establishing design processes, and mentoring future design hires
  • Tackle miscellaneous design needs across the company as needed, from creating marketing materials to adding some design flair to our Bay Area office

About You

  • 3+ years of full-time design experience, ideally at startups or fast-paced teams where you owned end-to-end UI/UX design
  • Proven experience designing for consumer-facing products, with a strong understanding of how design drives engagement and retention
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating sharp design instincts, attention to detail, and an ability to balance beauty with usability
  • Collaborative and clear communicator who thrives in cross-functional environments and moves quickly from idea to execution
  • Able to work in-person at our San Francisco Bay Area office
  • Experience playing an instrument and/or strong passion for music
  • (Bonus) Familiarity with music transcription and music data formats (e.g., MIDI, MusicXML, etc.)
  • (Bonus) Coding experience

Benefits

  • Medical, Vision, Dental, and Life Insurance
  • PTO
  • Team events
  • $120K–$200K + Equity
